Jordan Goes Green

Jordan Health Services recognizes it plays a role in protecting our environment. Below are a few actions our team has undertaken to do our part:

  • Use of electronic medical records for patients receiving Home Health Services thus decreasing the use of paper products
  • Use of handheld computers, called PDAs (personal digital assistants) for both documentation of daily activities and internal communication, whenever possible
  • Continued decrease in the use of desktop computers which can create a challenge at the time of replacement
  • Use of technology in day-to-day business operations in an effort to decrease the use of paper:
    • On-line employment applications
    • On-line patient referrals
    • Electronic posting of internal policies & procedures
    • Electronic posting of company data such as financial statements, internal requests, human resource documents, etc.
    • Electronic storage of critical company records, whenever allowed by regulation
  • As electronic equipment is upgraded, Jordan searches for the most cost-effective, power-efficient products to reduce electricity consumption
  • Conservative use of electricity during non-business hours
  • Whenever feasible, Jordan donates used electronic equipment to the local community, such as schools, rather than discarding in local landfills
  • Computer based training for clinical and non-clinical team members decreases the need for large amounts of document reproduction
  • Purchase of recycled paper products such as copy paper
  • Proper planning when scheduling in-home visits to ensure minimal miles driven, thus conserving the use of gasoline
  • Leasing of company-vehicles that meet or exceed 30 miles per gallon of gasoline
  • Using energy-saving settings on computer equipment, printers, electronic devices, and powering down these items during non-business hours
  • Use of computer technology to share and review internal documents onscreen versus printing documents
  • Saving files in a PDF format to eliminate blank pages in documents that must be printed
  • Use of technology to submit bills to payers versus the submission & storage of paper bills, when possible
  • Payment of vendor invoices electronically, when possible
  • Re-use of shipping boxes and packing materials
  • Use of telecommuting for employees, when possible, to decrease the need for more office space and associated utilities
